Lice Facts
Lice is the plural word for louse, is a parasite or scavengers that feeds on human or animal skin and blood. It lives on a human body, mostly on head and areas with hair for humans and fur on animals. It varies its color from beige to gray but becomes darker when it is feeding on human or animal blood. Lice lives reach maturity, reproduce and Lice life cycle is just thirty (30) to forty (40) days only.. It is the common infection an adult or a child suffers. The causes of lice are everywhere and can easily be acquired.
Lice need warm and humid conditions in order to survive. They rapidly feed on human blood and can easily die if they fall away from human bodies. Nits suffer the same thing, eggs does not hatch if remove from human bodies.
Biology of a head lice
Head Lice is a tiny insect in the group or order Psocodea. Its scientific word is Pediculus humanus capitis or in the equivalent meaning of head louse. It is a wingless ectoparasite belonging from more than 3000 specie and host on humans. Out of these, there are three(3) species which are classified as diseases for human. Lice feeds on blood and resides near the scalp to maintain its body temperature.
It is the most common infection / disease that can be easily acquired. Head Lice can not fly, jump and walk efficiently on smooth surfaces. On this note, head lice can only be transferred from one person to another by direct contact or sometimes it is blown in the wind.
